I read this book a few years back, then wanted to reread it but I had forgotten the title and author (too many books in my head). Anyway, someone on amazon helped me find the name, and I am so pleased. Perhaps Mr. Bigsby won't like a comparison to Morrison and Faulkner, but here it is anyway. I was very surprised that the author is English because he was able to capture the southern American spirit in his protagonist, a spirit that is often misunderstood by even other Americans. I agree with the other review that there are some implausible plot leaps, however, the plot was actually secondary for me to the characterizations of the people, time and place.Product details
